IPL Photorejuvenation

IPL Photorejuvenation

IPL Photorejuvenation is a minor treatment with major results. Intense Pulse Light (IPL) is used to treat uneven skin tone, brown spots (dyschromia) and capillary blood vessels (telangiectasia).

IPL Photorejuvenation is ideal for any part of your face, neck and décolleté that suffers skin redness, tiny veins (telangiectasia) or brown spots. Light (low contrast) brown spots that were previously difficult to resolve respond well to treatment.

What is IPL? IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light. This technique delivers high intensity light pulses to the deep layer of tissue known as the dermis, while leaving the superficial layer of skin (epidermis) untouched. Most patients benefit from a series of IPL Photofacial treatments, typically 1 – 3 sessions spaced four weeks apart.

We will create a customized treatment plan to meet your specific needs and goals. Because IPL leaves the surface of the skin undamaged, there really is no recovery time associated with this procedure. Treatments take only 30–45 minutes and patients can leave the office and return to work the same day.

IPL Photofacial delivers a broad spectrum of light through a hand piece that is placed gently over the skin. The cosmetic doctor has the ability to adjust the wavelength range for customized treatment depending on skin type, conditions and patient goals. You may experience a mild pinching or stinging sensation when the pulse of light is delivered. Medical cooling gel applied before treatment minimizes pain, making anesthesia or pain medicine unnecessary.

Your brown spots will start to darken and your skin may appear slightly red immediately following the treatment. The treated area may also be mildly swollen after treatment, generally lasting less than 24 hours. Pigmented lesions will continue to get darker and will remain that way for approximately seven days until they flake away.

You will see optimal results within one to three weeks. Redness and broken blood vessels will gradually decrease as your blotchy complexion continues to improve. Eventually, your complexion will look refreshed and renewed.

The results of IPL Photofacial will depend largely on your skin care routine. IPL Photofacial does not stop the aging process. It can, however, significantly reduce or reverse visible signs of aging. It is important that you avoid sun exposure and invest in professional grade skin care products. Maintenance treatments may also be helpful towards extending the results of IPL Photofacial.
